Stone Facade Design | Hex Skin by Borrowed Earth Collaborative

Hex Skin is a custom stone facade design by Borrowed Earth Collaborative that explores how geometry, craftsmanship, and light can transform architectural surfaces. This project reflects our approach to creating architectural stone facades that feel both contemporary and timeless.

The concept began as a study of the hexagon and how its structure could evolve into something more fluid and expressive. By stretching and reshaping this form, we created a connected network of polygons that bring movement and rhythm to a solid surface. The result is a geometric pattern that interacts beautifully with light and shadow, adding depth and texture to the facade.

Each stone module was precision-cut and hand-finished, blending digital design technology with traditional craftsmanship. The process of making the stone facade required both accuracy and artistry, ensuring that every joint aligned seamlessly while preserving the tactile quality of natural stone.

Installed as a layered screen around a courtyard, Hex Skin transforms throughout the day as sunlight and shadow animate its geometry. At night, the facade glows softly from within, revealing the structure’s detail and depth. This project demonstrates how thoughtful stone facade design can shape architecture that feels alive, warm, and deeply connected to material and place.
